Roulette Tips

Roulette is a game of pure luck. The player has no control over the game itself he/she simply wagers on which number will win and waits for the wheel to determine the winner.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when you are going to play.

Look for a European Roulette game using the single zero wheel rather than the American Roulette game that uses a double zero wheel. The American wheel offers the house a house advantage of 5.26% while the European wheel has a lower house advantage of 2.70%.

Check to see if the casino offers the "En Prison" option. When green wins (zero and double zero if using the American wheel) this option allows a player, who has placed an even bet, player to either take back one half of the wager or to En Prison the bet. If the En Prison option is selected the bet is set aside and the next spin of the wheel decides the outcome. If the original bet wins the wager is returned (without paying off) and if the original bet loses the money is lost forever. In the event that green wins again the wager remains imprisoned and the outcome is decided on the next spin of the wheel. The "En Prison" option reduces the house odds using the American wheel from 5.26% to 2.63% and if using the European wheel from 2.70% to 1.35%.

Stay away from the five number bet on 00, 0, 1, 2 and 3. This bet has a casino advantage of 7.89% while all other Roulette bets have a casino advantage of 5.26%.

Always make a set of predetermined wagers rather than changing your bet with every spin. In theory the ball should hit every number equally over time so if you keep betting the same you have better odds of winning. Some suggest that you should observe the wheel before placing your wager and then bet on a number or numbers that haven't come up for some time in the belief that they are overdue and should come up for a win soon.

Don't place too much trust in any Roulette system. There is no proof that any Roulette system will give you a winning edge over the house.

Remember the house advantage will guarantee the house will win in the long term. You however are playing short term, so if you are up for the day consider quitting and taking your winnings. The longer you play the greater the chance that the house edge will win.

Before you enter a casino decide your limits and stick to them. Deciding beforehand on the amount you are willing to lose and the amount you are content to win eliminates poor decisions made during the excitement of playing.
